Fancy Food Show
I recently attended the Fancy Food Show which is held once a year in New York and takes up the whole of the Javits Convention Center. It's just aisles and aisles of food from around the world with lots of samples. Lots of chocolate and cheese and dips and just about everything else.
For those itnerested in food trends i saw three big rends this year. The first is the move towards organic foods. Many, many items were organic. More by far than they have had before. The vendors told me that they expect that by next year there will be even more organic foods. Americans are becoming very concerned with what they are eating from a health standpoint.
Next is spicy. More and more spicy foods. Crackers, dips, rubs, chocolate, ice cream, cheese and anything else you can think of and things you would never think of as spicy. Obviously the American palate is looking for more fire and spice in their food.
Dark chocolate. This was evident last year and even more so this year. Lots and lots of dark chocolate. Dark chocolate with differing amounts of cocoa, dark chocolate from different places of origin, dark chocolate with spices, dark cholocate with fruit. It's obvious that Americans are eating a lot more dark choloate and while milk chocolate is still popular, dark chocolate is have a huge surge in popularity.
There will be more to come on the Fancy Food Show over the next few weeks.
